The Continuing Education Unit was created in 1970, after a task force involving IACET and the U.S. Department of Education studied how to measure non-credit continuing education. It's a standard unit of measure, which is the whole point. One CEU means the same thing in Jacksonville as it does anywhere else.

The word "CEU" gets used loosely. Plenty of training providers hand out something they call a CEU with no standard behind it at all.

The IACET CEU is different. Only organizations the IACET Commission has accredited can award it, and the accreditation isn't a form you fill out. It's a review of nine standard categories covering how an organization plans, designs, delivers, assesses, and documents its training, verified through a document review and an accreditation interview with a commissioner.

Before the session. We confirm the learning objectives and CEU value with you in writing as part of the scope. CEUs can't be assigned after the fact, so this happens up front, every time.

During the session. Attendance is documented. Learners complete an assessment tied directly to the stated learning objectives, because a CEU measures completion of a learning event, not just attendance at one.

After the session. Each participant receives a certificate of completion showing their name, the course, the date, and the CEUs awarded. We maintain learner records under a written retention and privacy policy, so if someone loses their certificate three years from now we can reissue it.
